Living room at PLU44 apartment architectural design project by Pournoir in Berlin Kreuzberg

PLU44 – Apartment

PLU44 is a thoughtfully crafted apartment located in Berlin’s vibrant Kreuzberg district, nestled in a quiet courtyard just steps from the Paul-Lincke-Ufer. Designed by POURNOIR, this project explores the intersection of minimalism, material honesty, and spatial clarity. The primary objective of the design was to integrate the apartment’s existing structural elements into a cohesive and intentional interior concept, creating a unified and expansive atmosphere that flows effortlessly from one area to the next.

The layout is clearly divided into two functional zones: day and night. Both areas follow classic loft principles—open, fluid, and stripped of unnecessary boundaries. The day area encompasses the living and dining zones, intentionally designed without a formal entrance. Hidden elements, such as the bathroom and service rooms located beside the kitchen, are cleverly concealed behind sliding walls and integrated doors, enhancing the seamless experience of the space.

A subtle yet effective color shift defines the transition between day and night areas. Central columns, rather than interrupting the flow, amplify the spatial effect, making the apartment appear larger and more expansive. The kitchen, positioned prominently as a design statement, reinforces this feeling of openness and becomes the visual anchor of the room.

The interiors are enriched by a curated selection of contemporary art and vintage furniture, lending the space a layered, lived-in character. These expressive elements subtly contrast the purity of architectural lines without overwhelming them. Bespoke furniture pieces designed specifically for PLU44—including a sculptural sideboard and the O.U. Table by Douman Pour—add a distinct layer of craftsmanship and individuality to the space. The master bedroom presents a more intimate narrative darker tones, tactile textures, and soft lighting transform it into a serene retreat within the urban fabric.

PLU44 apartment Berlin interior design by POURNOIR stands as an example of how thoughtful composition, raw materials, and curated elements can harmonize into a timeless spatial experience.
