Kitchen at the K36 Apartment architectural design project by Pournoir in Berlin

K36 Apartment

The apartment spans 130 m², offering a carefully curated blend of historical charm and contemporary living. The entrance leads into a hallway that elegantly connects the various rooms. The design brief was to reimagine a classic Berlin Altbau for the 21st century, seamlessly integrating modern technology into a historical framework. This fusion is subtly showcased through thoughtfully chosen design elements.

At the heart of the layout are two architectural volumes that house the living room and kitchen pantry. These structures not only define the living, dining, and kitchen areas but also serve as vertical galleries for art. The kitchen, a bespoke design by Douman Pour, is divided into three distinct components, maximizing wall space for artwork and creating a tranquil, visually harmonious connection between the kitchen and living areas.

The master bedroom offers views of the serene green backyard, providing a peaceful retreat from the bustle of city center. The bathrooms feature open showers, emphasizing clean lines and spatial fluidity. A particularly striking element is the dark ceiling in the master bathroom, which creates a minimal yet poetic atmosphere, offering the eye a calming retreat.

Furniture throughout the apartment reflects a sophisticated balance of classic, bespoke and modern design, creating an eclectic yet cohesive aesthetic. By curating pieces from diverse designers, the interiors achieve a dynamic interplay of styles, uniting timeless elegance with contemporary innovation.

Materials play a pivotal role in the design, emphasizing striking contrasts. The palette juxtaposes soft, neutral tones with vibrant hues, alongside an interplay of textures.

Natural and organic materials take center stage, with dark wood, metal, leather, and soft fabrics defining the kitchen and living areas.Steel leather and soft fabrics complement the design, while dark blue oak cabinetry and a sculptural stainless steel kitchen island add a refined touch. The master bathroom features a travertine silver washbasin, while ceramic tiles cover the bathroom floors and showers. The master bedroom features a bespoke leather carpet, adding a natural, organic touch. Warm oak parquet flooring runs throughout the apartment, creating a sense of continuity, with select areas finished in ceramic large tiles to enhance the material dialogue.
